Final Project
I wanted to share my final project for my GIS 6005 class as I have put all my efforts in it to look good and I loved how it turned out. I love creating infographic maps and I missed doing this as I tend to do more spatial analysis in my work. This is a good exercise on my visualization skills using simple infographic for my map viewers.
· Volume of Production – The largest producers
of coffee beans are in the Mindanao area which is the southern regions of the
Philippines. In which, I thought the largest produces are in the northern part
due to the demand for coffee beans from Sagada, Kalinga and Benguet provinces
located in the CAR region.
· Highest
Coffee Type per Region – Region XI (Davao) produces all coffee types that
indicates that the area has diverse elevation (high altitude – colder
temperatures and low altitude – warmer temperatures). Arabica and Robusta are
the most common coffee bean type wherein both are produced differently in high
(Arabica – 800-2000m) and low (Robusta – 800m below) altitudes.
· Coffee
Consumption – As expected, the consumption of coffee from 2011 to 2019 has increase
throughout the years. It is expected that it might have increased during the
pandemic as well with the demand for coffee shops and even homemade coffee.
· Percent
share to Total Production – As some of you may know, Arabica (60%) and Robusta
(30%) (Albino, 2017) have the largest coffee bean type production in the world.
Robusta is relatively priced low compared to Arabica and has a stronger
caffeine content so coffee lovers might prefer this type.
Overall, although this map isn’t that technical in terms of spatial analysis, simple infographic maps like this plays a big role in understanding our coffee statistics, industry and how coffee rolls out in our agricultural chain.
