GIS Job Search
For this week we focused on looking for GIS-related jobs and sharing our dream jobs. To be honest, from where I am right now is already my dream job. I graduated as a Geography major in college but turned out to focus on GIS-related work when I started as an intern to consultant to a regular job. Little did I know that I'll be falling in love with my job a a humanitarian context. I never would have thought that I will be a Data and Geospatial Analyst in my work right now. It has given me a wider spectrum of my skills and capabilities and am now working on some data science projects + GIS projects.
Though, there's actually 2 jobs that I dreamt of achieving back then: (1) Senior Information Management Officer or (2) Solutions Engineer at Esri
(1) Senior Information Management Officer for any UN-related organizations (e.g. UNHCR, UNDP, etc.) is a combination of GIS and Data/Statistical analysis. This job provides information management services to support UN's activities related to emergencies; in areas of information flows, dissemination, processing, analysis, GIS in the humanitarian setting.

I have worked for almost 3 months with the refugees camps in Bangladesh (Cox Bazar), mostly with IM Officers in different organizations. I was even offered a position but refused the offer as I was not ready to stay in the area for a long period of time. As it was the emergency phase back then I might not be able to go home yet till the situation has toned down.
Based from the job posting, I already have most of the required skills except a Master's degree which I am hoping to finish with UWF.
(2) Solutions Engineer at Esri which is I think most of GIS folks' dream job is to get to work at Esri. These solution engineers work with non-profit organizations/company tackling global issues. There are different types of solutions engineer but I'd like to focus on working with organizations discussing critical challenges like climate change, disaster response, help lessen the spread of disease, lessen hunger and poverty, and many more. The main responsibility is to cater opportunities to innovate GIS solutions using ArcGIS platform with your assigned organization.

What got my interest is their massive User conference which I attended back in 2017. Like anybody else attending that conference, I hoped to be the person who stands in front with the organization I'm assigned to and presenting the ArcGIS/GIS solutions that we'll use in their programs/projects.
As I am already familiar with the non-profit setting, I think I need to be more familiarize with the other ArcGIS tools.
This week's module helps us students to be in reality situations once we finish our certification/master's degree where we find jobs and have a slight of experience how that feels. To be honest, I got lucky with my job right now since it came to me without even looking for one.
